When is the Town Hall open?
Most departments in the Town Hall are open from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday;
and 8:00 AM until Noon on Friday. The Tax Collector's Office opens
at 7:00 AM. The Town Hall is located at 135 School St. A listing
of department telephone numbers and directions
to the Town Hall are available on the web site.
When
is the Recycling Center open?
The operation hours of the recycling facility on Robbins
Road vary by season. The compost site
web page lists them. Flyers outlining Walpole's recycling program
are available from the Board of Health or visit the Board
of Health's web page for information.
When
do I put out my recycling?
The
Recycling Calendar
shows when recycling is picked up but you must know whether you
live on a green street or not. Check the Recycling
Street List to find out.
May
I put my old sofa out for curbside pickup?
Yes, each household is allowed to put out one large item for pickup
each week. However, there are certain restrictions. NO APPLIANCES
ARE ALLOWED. Contact the Board of Health for information or check
the Recycling web page.
Where
can I get a copy of a birth certificate?
If the person was born in Walpole, contact the Town Clerk's office
at (508)660-7296 and provide them with the person's name and date
of birth. You can download
an application. Otherwise contact the Dept of Vital Records
and Statistics at 617-740-2603 or visit their website.
How
do I get a marriage certificate?
You must apply at the Town Clerk's office. However, there are several
requirements for obtaining a marriage certificate. We suggest you
visit the
State's web site which explains these requirements.
Where
can I get a death certificate?
If the person died in Walpole, contact the Town Clerk's office at
(508)660-7296 and provide them with the person's name and date of
death. You can download
an application. Otherwise contact the Dept of Vital Records
and Statistics at 617-740-2603 or visit their
website.
Where
do I get a Dog License?
Dog licenses are available at the Town Clerk's office or the Animal
Control office. You must bring proof of current rabies shot when
you come in for your license. You can download
a license form.
How
can I find the assessed value of a property?
Contact the Board of Assessors at (508)660-7315 or visit their office
at the Town Hall or search the Assessors
online database.
How
can I pay a tax or water bill?
- In
person at the Collector's Office in the Town Hall
from 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM and paying by
cash, check, or Discover card (fee charged)
- By
mail using the envelope provided with the bill
- When
Town Hall is closed using the drop box located at the back entrance
to the Town Hall
- On
line using ebill
When
can I file for an abatement?
Once the ACTUAL TAX bill (3rd installment of Quarterly Billing)
are MAILED, you will have until the due date of the 3rd installment
to file an abatement application with the Assessor's office. Please
note that the Board of Assessors may only consider an application
for an abatement that has been filed with the Assessor's Office
in a timely manner. Contact the Board of Assessors at (508)660-7315
for more information.
Who
qualifies for a property tax exemption?
The
Assessors Office receives many inquires regarding property tax exemptions
from taxpayers on limited income who are coping with rising household
expenses and property taxes. Fortunately, there are programs to
help you meet your tax obligations. These programs, which provide
either property tax exemptions or a deferral of taxes, are set forth
in different clauses of Section 5 of Chapter 59 of the General Laws
of Massachusetts. Those specifically geared for you are Clause 17D,
Clause 41C or Clause 41A - Tax Deferral. The Assessors's Office
has posted information on exemptions

web page on exemptions or contact the Assessors at (508)660-7315.
Do
I need a permit to put in an above ground pool?
Yes, you do. Please contact the Building Inspector's office at (508)660-7324
for more information or visit their office at the Town Hall. The
Building Inspector's web page lists
most projects that require a permit but you should check with the
Building Inspector.
