Compost Facility Regulations

 

The Compost Facility Is Strictly For Use By Residents Of The Town Of Walpole. Commercial, Agricultural & Industrial Disposal Is Prohibited.*

 

Permits are available from the Treasurer/Collector’s Office at Town Hall Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Upon payment of the required fee and submittal of completed application, the resident will be issued a sticker(s) that MUST BE AFIXED TO THE VEHICLE ON THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE WINDSHIELD.

No Stickers will be sold at the compost facility.

The Walpole Compost Facility is strictly for the use of residents of Walpole. Hours of Operation

Compost Facility staff monitor all vehicles that use the facility, and have been instructed to report anyone suspected of violating these regulations. Should it be determined that a violation of these rules & regulations has occurred, the following penalties may be imposed:

  • 1st Offense: Warning
  • 2nd Offense: Forfeiture of Compost Facility Permit with no refund

The fee structure for Fiscal Year 2010 is as follows:

  • Regular Annual Fee For First Vehicle: $10.00 September 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010
  • Second Vehicle Fee: $ 5.00 per vehicle in addition to regular annual fee.
  • Lost/Temporary Permit Fee: $ 5.00

Each vehicle using the Compost Facility is required to have a permit, which must be displayed. Vehicles without a permit or individuals without a lost/temporary permit will not be allowed use of the facility. If your permit is lost, or you sell your vehicle, you must purchase a lost/temporary permit. These may be obtained at the Treasurer/Collector's Office.

The Compost Facility WILL ONLY ACCEPT the following items:

  • Leaves 
  • Grass Clippings 
  • Christmas Trees
  • Brush & Limbs (up to 4-foot sections no greater than 4 inches in diameter)

The Compost Facility Operator will be available to assist with any questions you may have.

In an effort to keep traffic flowing, we ask that vehicles do not linger after disposing materials. Also, please keep children under the age of 12 in your vehicle.

*The Town of Walpole is permitted to utilize the facility for collections from municipal properties.
